Ideas on Next Steps
Awareness
Help others understand the clean-up needs and history of local hazardous waste sites. Talk to your neighbors, friends, and other community members. Remember to reference reliable information so that the community can be well-informed and engaged.
Lobbying/Political Engagement
Participate in local events to have your voice heard. Reach out to local offices such as the EPA Region 4 for Superfund updates and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Community members can also share questions or feedback during scheduled public meetings and official comment periods.
University Partnerships
Collaboration with the University of Florida may be a pathway to raise awareness for hazardous waste sites and conduct testing.
Other Nonprofit Partnerships
Join other environmental organizations for more support.
Community Movement
Start a city-wide movement through social media and other forums to recenter concern around environmental contaminants.
Community Council
Create a council of diverse Gainesville residents to collaborate with. Together, identify environmental concerns and determine pathways to solutions.
